Kevin Feige finally broke his silence on Nova’s future in the MCU. The Marvel Studios boss confirmed the project’s format during a candid SDCC interview with Brandon Davis.
Nova is getting an MCU movie
Marvel Studios is developing a Nova movie with Michael Waldron set to write and potentially direct the project. Deadlinefirst reported that Waldron is penning the script, though the project remains in early development. Marvel Studios and Waldron’s representatives have not commented on the report.
Marvel Studios previously planned Nova as a Disney+ series with Moon Knight writer Sabir Pirzada attached to the script. The studio shelved that version in 2025 as part of a larger shift away from streaming projects. Waldron’s Writers Guild of America West directory listing later revealed his attachment to the project.
Kevin Feige confirmed the movie at San Diego Comic-Con during an interview with Brandon Davis. When asked what Marvel had officially said about Nova, Feige responded, “Not a damn thing.” He then confirmed the project is moving forward as a feature film.
Waldron brings significant Marvel experience to the project. He previously wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and served as showrunner on Loki. He also worked on Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars for the studio. His production company Anomaly holds an overall deal with Disney.
Nova first appeared in Nova #1 in 1976 as a member of the Nova Corps. The intergalactic police force previously appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. The character possesses superhuman abilities including enhanced strength, flight, and resistance to injury. He also battled the Skrulls, who featured in Captain Marvel and Secret Invasion.
The project will likely introduce Nova to the MCU following the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. Waldron has also suggested Glen Powell would be perfect for the role of Richard Rider.
