Steve Burton recently reacted to fan reactions to his General Hospital return. He acknowledged and responded to the complaints he has received over Jason Morgan’s haggard look. He was back in Port Charles on July 13 after being last seen in March 2026, when he took a hiatus from the show to spend some time with family.

During a conversation on the That’s Awesome podcast, Burton revealed that fans were happy to see him return to the roster but instantly bombarded him with complaints regarding his look. Referencing fans’ questions, he added, “What’s wrong with his hair?” and “What happened to his face?” He then pointed out a specific comment he received, where a fan remarked that he took a break to make his forehead larger. He jokingly said who would wish for a “five-head” and would want to make it look “taller” before talking about how he also received comments over weight loss.
While Burton acknowledged fans’ comments over his new look, the Jason actor revealed that he made a “conscious decision” to get a physical makeover. “I’m like, ‘Okay, well, if I’m in jail, I should probably start slimming down… I’m gonna just kind of tighten things up, get a little leaner, just so I look a little more emaciated and then makeup can do what they do. And then maybe people will go, ‘Yeah, he was somewhere for like, three months not really eating and got beat up and a lot of bad stuff happened to him,” Burton added.
Ahead of praising the impressive makeup that helped achieve the haggard look, Burton also clarified that his overall appearance was an “intentional” choice for his character. He emphasized that it in no way implies the look has anything to do with his personal life. Before returning to Port Charles, Jason Morgan was in prison in Jakarta for the shooting of a WSB agent.
