Watch Ryan Reynolds’ Acclaimed R-Rated Drama Before It Exits Netflix

Ryan Reynolds fans have a limited time to watch one of his most acclaimed movies before it leaves Netflix. Released in 2015, the R-rated film Mississippi Grind received widespread praise from critics.

Mississippi Grind is leaving Netflix next month

The 2015 comedy drama Mississippi Grind leaves Netflix on August 1, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix. Reynolds plays Curtis, a suave gambler, in the movie opposite Ben Mendelsohn’s Gerry, a struggling gambler who is also a real estate agent. Additionally, the film’s cast includes Sienna Miller as Simone, Lio Tipton as Vanessa, Alfre Woodard as Sam, Robin Weigert as Dorothy, Jayson Warner Smith as Clifford, Marshall Chapman as Cherry, and Jane McNeill as Kate.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck wrote and directed the film. The plot follows Gerry as he meets Curtis and the two embark on a gambling road trip down the Mississippi.

Mississippi Grind had its world premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2015. A24 and DirecTV Cinema secured the US distribution rights to the movie. The movie came out on DirecTV Cinema on August 13, 2015, before debuting in limited theaters on September 25, 2015.

Following its release, the film made roughly $422,000 at the box office (via Box Office Mojo). However, it received high praise from critics. It currently has a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 120 reviews and, in terms of reviews from critics, remains the highest-rated movie of Reynolds’ career.

Matt Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com shared in a review, “Both of these men have more shadings and unexpected, often hidden layers than we thought, and the actors reveal them in pieces, often at moments where you don’t expect to be surprised, much less confounded.”

Some of the other movies leaving Netflix on August 1 are Pretty Woman, The Secret Life of Pets, Tootsie, and Atonement.
