Matt Smith gave a brilliantly self-deprecating verdict on his own superhero movie after discovering Keanu Reeves watched it on a plane. The House of the Dragon star’s incredulous response came during a podcast appearance.
Matt Smith’s hilarious reaction to Keanu Reeves watching Morbius
Speaking on Brittany Broski’s Royal Court podcast, he was visibly stunned when he got to know that Reeves had watched Morbius. Matt Smith’s immediate reaction was, “f— off.” Smith, a self-confessed admirer of Reeves, appeared genuinely baffled that one of the world’s biggest movie stars would select the 2022 Sony-Marvel release from an in-flight entertainment catalogue.
Broski pressed Smith on what he would personally watch during a journey. His reply was, “Not f—ing Morbius.” Before speculating on how Reeves might have stumbled upon the title. “Jesus Christ. My god. He must have really gone through the BA library to be get to that. He’s on the Valium or something.” When the host joked that Reeves might have been “drunk,” Smith doubled down on the theory that the Matrix icon was simply “having a moment.”
The actor was careful to clarify his deep respect for Reeves despite the merciless mocking of his film choice. “No, but what a legend. I love Keanu Reeves, I just want to make that really clear,” Smith declared. He went on to describe Reeves in almost ethereal terms, calling him an “angel” and stating that if one were to get a guardian angel in life, “please God, let it be Keanu Reeves.”
Matt Smith also praised the specific era of cinema that defined Keanu Reeves’s rise. “I genuinely think that that period of movies, that sort of ’90s period of films I just love, from Point Break onwards. I just think he’s the best,” he told Broski, who enthusiastically agreed.
The irony of the situation was not lost on Smith. In Morbius, he plays Milo, the childhood friend of Jared Leto’s vampiric antihero. The film struggled critically and commercially upon release.
