No, the Minions haven’t worked for Hitler. Minions & Monsters director Pierre Coffin finally put an end to theories in a recent interview.
Speaking to Polygon, the director was asked whether the new Minions introduced in the film had worked for Hitler. Given that the creatures always sought to work for the most evil boss in history, it was natural that such a thing be asked. And while Coffin has often tackled that question by revealing that the Minions hid in a cave from 1812 to 1968, the question stemmed from the fact established in the film that multiple tribes of Minions existed. This meant that there was a high chance of a faction of the species having worked for Hitler, widely considered one of the most evil men in human history.
What did the Minions & Monsters director say about the new character’s history?
“I knew you were going to ask me that question. Shame on you. So the Minions that we know from Minions 1 were stuck in the cave. These ones, I don’t know where they were, but they were not part of the Big History.” Coffin also stated that the Minions are invincible and cannot die. He revealed that they had tried to kill the creatures “multiple times,” but they came back to life “for some reason.”

The comments from Pierre Coffin come as the third Minions movie hits theaters. Minions & Monsters is the seventh film set in the Despicable Me franchise, and comes two years after the release of Despicable Me 4. Like its predecessors in the Minions series, the film serves as a prequel.
The official synopsis of Minions & Monsters reads, “This is the rambunctious, ridiculous, and totally true story of how the Minions conquered Hollywood, became movie stars, lost everything, unleashed monsters onto the world, and then banded together to try and save the planet from the mayhem they had just created.”
Minions & Monsters is currently running in theaters.
