HBO‘s House of the Dragon Season 3 sets a new record thanks to its loyal fans. The popular fantasy TV show is a prequel to the iconic Game of Thrones.
What record did House of the Dragon Season 3 break?
Episode 2 of House of the Dragon Season 3, titled Queen’s Landing, premiered last night and established a new milestone for the HBO TV series. It has become the highest-rated episode on IMDb in House of the Dragon’s history.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2 has received a stupendous rating of 9.4/10 on IMDb. Based on over 13,000 user reviews, it’s the best rating for any episode released across all three seasons of the prequel TV show.
The massive update comes just days after Episode 1, titled Salt and Sea, Fire and Blood, set the tone for Season 3 with an excellent IMDb rating of 9.2/10. It featured heavy action set pieces and a grand opening with the Battle of the Gullet.
Besides receiving an amazing reception, House of the Dragon Season 3 has also brought a big change by reworking the 15-year-old Game of Thrones theme. It features a new version of the iconic theme, with composer Ramin Djawadi adding drums to the starting sequence of his original work.

“We wanted to mark the darker tone this season with something small but noticeable,” said showrunner while explaining the reason behind the shift. “When Ramin shared this update to his iconic theme, we knew it was the way to go.”
HOTD Season 3 features an ensemble cast including Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, and James Norton. Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin, Abubakar Salim, Tom Cullen, Tommy Flanagan, Dan Fogler, Joplin Sibtain, and Barry Sloane also play crucial roles.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 3 will premiere on July 5, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max.
