Who is in the Werwulf trailer?

The new trailer for the movie retains most of the mystery from Eggers’ new movie, as is often the case with his trailers. In it, we see the trio of Taylor-Johnson, Dafoe, and Depp, all of whom just worked with Eggers for his previous film, Nosferatu.

Eggers opened up about some of the movie recently. He confirmed the film takes place sometime around 1300 A.D., prior to wolves becoming extinct in England. The movie also won’t deal with any of the modern-day tropes surrounding werewolves.

This means details like being bitten or silver bullets being necessary to defeat them won’t be found here. Instead, the movie will follow the story of an unnamed farmer (Taylor-Johnson) who has been “cursed” and trying to “find salvation through love,” according to Eggers. Dafoe will play the hunter in the movie, trying to put an end to the curse.

Like all of Eggers’ previous work, the movie will be hyper-detailed, and like his feature-length debut The Witch in 2015, will feature period authentic dialogue and accents for the Middle English period. Eggers also said the movie was filmed on 35mm film, and will incorporate grain structure of black-and-white film onto color film to give it a unique look.

Prior to the announcement of Werwulf, rumors suggested that Eggers had been tapped to direct a new Labyrinth movie. Eggers himself has also spoken about wanting to make a medieval movie known right now as The Knight, as well as one day hoping to make a Western film. He’s also been rumored to be working on a miniseries about Grigori Rasputin, the Russian mystic and faith healer.
