Supergirl: Here’s How Much Money DCU Movie Now Needs to Make to Satisfy Warner Bros.

Milly Alcock‘s Supergirl is off to a modest start at the box office, but not enough to be called a success. A new report reveals the worldwide total that it needs to satisfy Warner Bros. and reach the break-even point.

How much money does Supergirl need to make in order for Warner Bros. to be happy?

According to The Wrap, Supergirl will need to make $300 million worldwide for Warner Bros. to see the movie as a hit. Previously, Deadline reported that the film would need to earn at least $315 million.

The DC Studios film had a production budget of $170 million, excluding marketing costs. The movie has received mixed reviews since its release. As of writing, it has gained a 57% tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.

On the first day, Craig Gillespie’s film made $7.8 million domestically and $5.2 million internationally, giving it a worldwide total of $13 million. By comparison, James Gunn’s Superman (2025), starring David Corenswet, earned an estimated amount of $125 million in its opening weekend. It grossed $354 million domestically and went on to earn $618 million worldwide.

Even though the new installment in the DCU is not an instant mega-hit, insiders say that managing a gross above $300 million, with an opening weekend tracking at around $40-45 million. Moreover, Toy Story 5 and Minion & Monsters may overshadow Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. Notably, Toy Story 5 has earned $365.1 million worldwide so far, while Minion & Monsters is set to hit theaters on July 1.

Alcock first appeared as Kara Zor-El in a brief cameo in Superman. However, this cameo set the stage for the standalone film directed by Craig Gillespie. Although the director has expressed hope for a sequel, its future will likely depend on the film’s box office performance and DC Studios’ broader plans for the DCU.

The synopsis of the film reads: “Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, joins forces with an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice when an unexpected adversary strikes too close to home.”

Supergirl is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
