New Pan’s Labyrinth poster unveiled for the film’s 20th anniversary rerelease
With Pan’s Labyrinth rereleasing in theaters nationwide on October 9, 2026, a new poster has been revealed in anticipation. Artist James Jean, who worked on it, shared it on X (formerly Twitter). It features the main protagonist, Ofelia, and the mysterious faun she interacts with throughout the film.
In the caption, he noted that Guillermo del Toro‘s Oscar-winning feature’s representation of an “uncompromising vision” inspired countless artists, including himself.
Fathom Entertainment will distribute the theatrical rerelease from Cineverse in theaters. It will be presented in 4K while Barco will showcase it in 3D and HDR (via Deadline).
The movie originally premiered at Cannes on May 27, 2006. It received a standing ovation following its screening at the film festival. Pan’s Labyrinth later premiered in Spain on October 11 and in Mexico nine days later. It later had a limited release in the United States and Canada on December 29 before dropping nationwide on January 19, 2007.
Following its arrival, it reportedly grossed $83.5 million worldwide against an estimated $19 million budget (via Box Office Mojo). It also enjoyed widespread critical acclaim, with many praising the visuals, makeup, direction, script, and cinematography. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts a remarkable “certified fresh” critical approval rating of 95% and a similarly impressive but slightly lower 91% audience score.
Meanwhile, Metacritic has assigned it a Metascore of 98 and a user score of 8.6, both denoting “universal acclaim.” In addition to directing, del Toro wrote the screenplay. He also co-produced with Alvaro Augustin, Alfonso Cuarón, Bertha Navarro, and Frida Torresblanco.
Set against the backdrop of Francoist Spain in the summer of 1944, the story follows Ofelia, an imaginative young girl. She crosses paths with a faun at an abandoned labyrinth, who tells her she is the reincarnation of Princess Moanna from the underworld. However, the latter says she needs to prove her worthiness and achieve immortality by completing three dangerous trials.
