The Bear Season 5 Has Cameos but It’s Nothing Like Season 3 or 4

The Bear’s final season quietly solved the show’s biggest problem without anyone noticing. Season 5 still welcomes new faces, but the cameo game looks nothing like what fans saw in Seasons 3 and 4.

The Bear Season 5 brought down its number of cameos for the right reasons

The Bear season 5 shifted its focus back to the core cast after two seasons filled with celebrity guest appearances. In contrast, Seasons 3 and 4 leaned heavily into star power with cameos from John Cena, Josh Hartnett, Brie Larson, and Rob Reiner. As a result, the final season pulls back from that approach, giving its central characters the space they need.

Earlier seasons built a strong cameo tradition through actors like Jon Bernthal, Bob Odenkirk, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Additionally, Sarah Paulson, Gillian Jacobs, and John Mulaney all featured in the acclaimed extended episode “Fishes.” Yet by the fourth season, the sheer volume of famous faces started feeling more like a distraction than an enhancement.

Meanwhile, Season 5 still introduces new characters, but each one serves a clear narrative purpose. For instance, Elsie Fisher plays Cheese, also known as Terry Cheddario, the niece of The Computer. Similarly, Deirdre O’Connell appears as a Berzatto family member who holds control over the building’s air rights.

Paul Rudd also makes a lighthearted return through a cardboard cutout of himself in Episode 1. Matty Matheson confirmed that Rudd voiced the Ballbreaker video game character in season 1 as well. Matheson explained that creator Chris Storer “loves throwing those things in there, and he loves paying tribute” (via The Wrap).

The entire final season unfolds over a single high-pressure day and runs two episodes shorter than previous outings. Without a revolving door of celebrity appearances, the show commits its remaining runtime to Carmy, Syd, and Richie. This stripped-down approach lets the series close with its strongest characters firmly at the center of the story.
