The first teaser for the upcoming Mirzapur movie is finally here, and it has brought back many of the iconic characters from the series, like Munna Tripathi, Guddu Pandit, Bablu Pandit, Kaleen Bhaiya, and others, some of whom were even dead by the time the series concluded.

How does the Mirzapur movie bring back dead characters?
Mirzapur brings back almost all the iconic characters from its first season because the movie is set in an earlier timeline. Even though many of the characters, including Munna Tripathi, are dead by the time the series wraps up, the story of the film takes place years before.
It serves as an origin story for the rivalry between Munna and Guddu, which sees some major events go down in the series.
The teaser reveals that the events in the film take place in 2018. The teaser also firmly establishes that the events of the film take place before the series concludes.
Why was Vikrant Massey recast with Jitendra Kumar in Mirzapur movie?
However, one notable exception in the series is Vikrant Massey. The teaser does not contain the fan-favorite actor. However, Bablu Pandit is still a part of the plot. Jitendra Kumar, known for his roles in Panchayat and Kota Factory, has reportedly replaced Massey as Bablu Pandit.
So, the character will still be a part of the story.
Mid-Day reported that Vikrant Massey was approached for the role but was reluctant to return because his character was abruptly killed off in the first season of the show. Mid-Day further revealed that the buzz was that he feared a similar outcome in the film and opted out.
Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, the producers of the film, respected his decision and went for a recast.
Apart from Jitendra Kumar, other actors like Ravi Kumar, Mohitt Maalik, and Sonal Chauhan are also joining the cast for the movie.
Mirzapur releases on September 4, 2026.
