What do we see in the Sense and Sensibility trailer?

The video introduces Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones and The Sandman star Esmé Creed-Miles as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The characters were famously portrayed by Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet in the 1995 movie version. The trailer highlights the new film’s fresh take on the Jane Austen classic. The ensemble cast includes Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, Frank Dillane as John Willoughby, Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood, George MacKay as Edward Ferrars, and Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Jennings.

Sense and Sensibility is directed by Georgia Oakley (Blue Jean), with bestselling author Diana Reid writing the screenplay. The story follows the lives of the Dashwood sisters and their mother, who are forced to move out of their home after their father’s death. The adaptation is produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films, alongside India Flint of November Pictures and Jo Wallett. Executive producers are Thea Paulett and Angela Moneke

Before Edgar-Jones’ movie, the novel was famously adapted in 1995 by acclaimed filmmaker Ang Lee, starring Thompson, Alan Rickman, Winslet, and Hugh Grant. It currently holds a near-perfect Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Besides Sense and Sensibility, there are more Jane Austen adaptations on the way, including Netflix’s upcoming series and modern remake of Austen’s popular Pride and Prejudice novel.
