Supergirl 2 Teased as Milly Alcock DCU Movie Nears, But There’s a Catch

With Milly Alcock‘s Supergirl set to hit theaters, there is a new update regarding a potential sequel. Besides potentially appearing in future DCU projects, including Man of Tomorrow, Kara Zor-El‘s story may not end with just one standalone film. However, any sequel would likely depend on one major condition.

What is the update on Supergirl 2?

DCU’s Supergirl is all set for theatrical release in a few days, and just recently, the director Craig Gillespie opened up about the potential sequel. He clearly mentioned that the upcoming movie is intended to be a ‘standalone film,’ but believes Kara Zor-El has to figure out her future.

Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gillespie said, “It is a standalone film. That was what was amazing — when I first met James, he was like, ‘We are treating each of these as their own graphic novel. This is your graphic novel.”

“It was both intimidating and exhilarating to not have any railings on this of where we could go with it. So I really leaned into this as a character story and went on this journey. I do think the journey’s not complete, so I would love to see how she keeps exploring her own journey. So we’ll see,” the Supergirl director added.

The comments come after DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran recently met with Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison amid a proposed merger deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Skydance. Moreover, during the Supergirl premiere’s blue-carpet event, executive producer Lars P. Winther said Ellison has been supportive of the team’s vision. He also discussed how Supergirl’s ending could influence the franchise’s future.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Winther said, “Without giving too much away, this movie ends a particular way, and you see where she’s going to end up. She’s done her wild ways, and now she’s going to try to get back in with her cousin and be more on Earth again. That’s where she is in Man of Tomorrow.”

The upcoming Supergirl movie is based on the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Unlike Superman, who left Krypton as a baby, fans get to see the planet through the eyes of Kara Zor-El, who left when she was around 13.

Apart from Milly Alcock, Supergirl’s cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, Eve Ridley, and more. David Corenswet’s Superman will also make an appearance. The film is set to release worldwide on June 26, 2026.
