Michelle Buteau confirms she won’t host The Circle reboot on Hulu
For years, Michelle Buteau served as the face of The Circle, guiding viewers through alliances, catfishing strategies, and unexpected twists. As news emerged that Hulu would revive the format following its cancellation on Netflix, fans quickly reacted. Many assumed Buteau would continue her hosting duties. However, the comedian recently revealed that she will not be involved in the upcoming reboot.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Buteau addressed the future of The Circle. She also spoke about her absence from Hulu’s new version. Although she expressed support for the show’s continuation, she confirmed that the producers chose not to bring her back. She said she will not be returning as the host.
“I’m glad that The Circle found a new home because it’s a great show,” Buteau said. She reflected on her seven-season run with pride, emphasizing the effort and dedication she invested in the Netflix series, per Deadline. “I put my foot in it, my back, my back fat, my right titty, I put all the stuff in it. But they’re not going to go through with me being the host, so I say, good luck, bless up, I hope you have fun putting a square in a circle,” Buteau said while wishing the new team well.
Originally debuting in 2020, The Circle quickly became one of Netflix’s standout unscripted programs. The reality competition placed contestants in separate apartments, where they interacted exclusively through a social media platform. Players could either present themselves honestly or adopt entirely different identities in hopes of building trust and winning the grand prize.
Earlier this month, reports revealed that Hulu had officially ordered a new version of The Circle after Netflix decided not to renew the program beyond its seventh season. The reboot is expected to introduce a fresh twist by incorporating real-time audience participation.
