Spider-Man Made Tom Holland a Star, but These Movies Could Define His Career

The future is looking bright for Tom Holland, as he has already lined up several exciting projects that could define his career. Next month will be Holland’s busiest period of the year as moviegoers will get to see him in two high-profile movies, including Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey on July 17 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31.

Recently, Holland shared that he’s currently developing a “long-form” secret project with acclaimed filmmaker Thomas Vinterberg. For his work on the 2020 movie Another Round, the Danish director won an Academy Award for Best International Feature Film and was also nominated for Best Director. This revelation gives us an idea of what direction Holland is currently looking for after starring in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. After getting to work with Nolan, it seems like the Marvel star is leaning towards projects that expand and challenge his artistic ambition as an actor.

At the moment, it’s unclear if Holland and Vinterberg’s secret project would be a movie or a series. Either way, the project could potentially have a bigger effect on Holland’s career trajectory than his upcoming superhero movies. Given Vinterberg’s remarkable talent for delivering character-driven stories, he’s the perfect director who could get a career-defining performance out of Holland that would allow him to break out of his blockbuster movie star image.

Besides the secret Vinterberg project, Holland is also currently attached to star in Sony Pictures’ long-in-development Fred Astaire biopic. This is another chance for Holland to use his theatre background for the big screen. In a previous interview, he confirmed that he has already started his dance rehearsals for the movie. This role will not only allow him to show off his dancing skills but also allow him to showcase his versatility as an actor. Since playing an American legend like Fred Astaire is a big undertaking, this could also potentially secure him his first major acting nods.

In addition, Holland has two more non-superhero projects under his belt. These include the John Grisham movie The Partner with Jason Bateman to direct, and Amazon MGM Studios’ true-crime racing drama American Speed with Austin Butler. Even though Holland is no stranger to the crime drama genre, these intriguing projects could introduce a new side to the Spider-Man star, especially when working with acclaimed stars such as Bateman and Butler.

Overall, it remains to be seen how all these upcoming high-profile projects will pan out. However, these are definitely interesting projects that are different from what moviegoers have known him for. Based on Holland’s next acting choices after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he’s on the right track if he’s planning to build a separate image from his Marvel persona.
