Citizen Vigilante director Uwe Boll has sparked fresh controversy with his comments about Hollywood and Donald Trump. In a recent interview, the filmmaker argued that many prominent figures publicly maintain cordial relationships with Trump despite privately opposing him. Boll also shared his views on the political leanings of major studios and streaming companies.
Uwe Boll says most of Hollywood hates Donald Trump
The director of Citizen Vigilante, Uwe Boll, recently commented on Hollywood’s political landscape, claiming that Donald Trump remains widely disliked within the entertainment industry. The filmmaker made the remarks while defending both his film Citizen Vigilante and his decision to cast Armie Hammer in the project.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Boll argued that many influential figures in Hollywood publicly engage with Trump while privately opposing him, and suggested that the industry’s leadership holds political views that oppose Trump’s, saying, “they schmooze up to Trump, but most of them hate him.”
He also claimed that executives at companies such as Netflix, Apple, and Amazon largely lean left politically. The director claimed, “With the possible exception of Paramount, none of them are conservative…all the decision-makers, from Netflix and Apple to Amazon, are all on the left, and they’re so politically correct that they won’t greenlight anything that is politically critical.”
Boll’s recent film Citizen Vigilante has generated controversy for both its subject matter and casting. Hammer stars in the movie as Sanders, a man who embarks on a violent vigilante campaign after becoming enraged by crimes committed by immigrants. The movie has drawn criticism over its graphic content and its portrayal of immigration, with Germany ultimately banning the film. Hammer’s involvement has also attracted attention due to allegations that surfaced about him in 2021, which he has denied.
Citizen Vigilante was released in the United States on June 19, 2026.
