Famke Janssen says Marvel “made a mistake” with her character, Jean Grey, in Avengers: Doomsday. She recently attended the 2026 San Antonio SpaceCon. There, she was asked about her potential return as Jean Grey in Avengers: Doomsday. While the actress didn’t confirm anything, she said that she is ready to show fans “some very dark Phoenix.”

Famke Janssen, who portrayed Jean Grey/Phoenix in the X-Men movies, recently attended the 2026 San Antonio SpaceCon. During the Q&A session, a fan asked the actress whether she had more fun playing Xenia Onatopp in GoldenEye or Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand.
Janssen explained that she probably had more fun playing Xenia. This is mainly because she had much more screen time as Xenia than as Phoenix, most of which was in the final act of X-Men: The Last Stand. The actress noted that she feels the films did not fully explore the character’s potential.
Nonetheless, she believes that Phoenix is iconic, powerful, and interesting. If the opportunity arises, the X2 star said she is ready to show “some really amazing Phoenix.”
She further reasoned that life’s experiences have helped her grow as a person and an actress. Because of that growth, she now feels ready to portray a deeper and darker version of the Marvel character. “Bring it. I’m ready. I am ready to show you some Phoenix. Some very dark Phoenix,” the Taken actress said.
Near the end of the discussion, the interviewer asked Janssen whether she was good at keeping secrets, indirectly asking whether she’s in Avengers: Doomsday. The actress responded jokingly that she is actually terrible at keeping secrets. According to her, people can easily tell what she is thinking just by looking at her expression.
Before concluding, she seemed to suggest that Marvel “made a mistake” by not casting her in Avengers: Doomsday. “But hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that,” she remarked.
