An unfortunate record for the Star Wars franchise has been set by The Mandalorian and Grogu’s box office numbers. Over the last month, it has struggled to find its footing amid recent releases that have become surprise hits. With box office numbers declining, the likelihood of breaking even has become difficult for the Star Wars spin-off.
The Mandalorian and Grogu’s box office to make it Star Wars’ lowest grosser
The Mandalorian has been one of the most successful spin-off series in the Star Wars franchise. As a result, many expected its sequel, The Mandalorian and Grogu, to be a box-office hit. However, the movie’s box office numbers indicate otherwise.
According to Box Office Mojo, The Mandalorian and Grogu has grossed $321.7 million globally since its release on May 22, 2026. Given that it needed to make somewhere between $500 and $600 million to break even, the movie is far off course.
To become successful, it not only has to make at least $200-$300 million more, but it also has to face additional competition from this month’s releases, including Toy Story 5 and Supergirl. Unfortunately, that milestone seems highly unlikely, especially given its massive week-on-week box-office drop.
At this rate, the Pedro Pascal-led movie may not even surpass the lifetime collection of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Until now, it was the franchise’s lowest-grossing movie, earning roughly $392.9 million at the global box office. If The Mandalorian and Grogu fails to outperform the Han Solo spin-off, it will end up as the lowest-grossing Star Wars movie.
Originally, The Mandalorian and Grogu was not meant to be a film. Director-writer Jon Favreau wrote a script for The Mandalorian Season 4. However, after Disney shifted its focus to feature films, Favreau had to start from scratch. As a result, he had to drop many of the initial ideas he wanted to explore in the series.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is currently running in theaters.
