Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reportedly achieved a major box-office milestone, a month before its release. It’s coming to theaters shortly after Chistoper Nolan’s epic. Nonetheless, the presales suggest the Tom Holland movie could have a strong box-office run.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day breaks a five-year presales record
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will debut in theaters next month, on July 31. Shortly after the tickets went on sale earlier this week, the Tom Holland film has recorded the best first-day presales in over five years, per Deadline.
Details on the number of tickets sold or revenue generated are still under wraps. But when considering that MCU’s 2022 movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, earned around $42 million in advance ticket sales, Brand New Day has likely surpassed it. With a month still to go, presale numbers are expected to grow significantly.
Previously, Avengers: Endgame shattered pre-sale records ahead of its April 2019 debut, becoming the most successful movie ever in terms of advance ticket sales. The film reportedly earned over $120 million in global pre-sales before opening day.
Ranked number 2 is the 2021 MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, which recorded an impressive $78 million in presales. Now, after five years, it’s another MCU movie starring Tom Holland that is climbing the box office charts quickly. This showcases a renewed interest in the franchise, which has been in decline in both commercial and critical success.
Two weeks before Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s release, Christopher Nolan’s Greek epic, The Odyssey, will open in theaters on July 17. It is the first film to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras. As a result, it has taken over all IMAX screens worldwide, depriving the MCU film of a premium-format release. Despite this, it hasn’t stopped the superhero film from making presale records.
Brand New Day will see Tom Holland reprising his role as the titular hero as he fights a mysterious enemy. The movie will also feature Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, Mark Ruffalo, and Sadie Sink.
