Nam Joo-hyuk Battles Ghosts in The East Palace Teaser Trailer for Netflix

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for The East Palace. The supernatural thriller stars Nam Joo-hyuk as a spirit hunter summoned to a cursed royal court. Set for release on July 17, the series plunges viewers into a world where the living and the dead collide within palace walls.

The East Palace teaser blends spirit world and reality

The East Palace trailer wastes no time establishing an ominous tone. Gu-cheon, played by Nam Joo-hyuk, arrives at the palace at the King’s request. The monarch, who does not believe in ghosts or superstition, makes a desperate exception. Curiosity mounts immediately. Why would a sceptical ruler call upon a man who walks between realms?

Inside the palace, Gu-cheon senses something wrong. Deep resentment clings to every corner. He decides to enter the Realm of Gwi himself to locate the “won-qwi,” a vengeful spirit. Palace maid Saeng-gang, played by Roh Yoon-seo, watches silently as he steps into a pond and disappears.

The spirit world emerges as a distorted mirror of reality. Dark red energy, thick as blood, saturates the screen. Gu-cheon draws his sword and cuts through spectral attackers. His voice cuts through the chaos with a warning, “Those who sin are punished eventually.”

The King and the Queen, played by Jang Young-nam, confront strange phenomena of their own. The teaser tightens its grip with a chilling line, “They say that once you enter the palace, you leave only in death.” The stakes are that Gu-cheon must destroy the spirit and lift the curse, or perish inside the East Palace.

Directed by Choi Jung-kyu and written by Kwon So-ra and Seo Jea-won, The East Palace follows a crown prince found dead in a pond. Rumours spread that a pond spirit has returned to erase the King’s bloodline.

Cho Seung-woo plays the King, who initially dismisses the deaths as a conspiracy. That changes when his last remaining son collapses. Gu-cheon receives a life-or-death mission, with Saeng-gang assigned to spy on his every move. Together, they edge closer to a dark truth buried beneath the water.

The East Palace premieres July 17, only on Netflix.
