The Disclosure Day 2 release date remains a topic of interest among moviegoers following the release of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi thriller. As discussions about a potential sequel continue online, many viewers are eager to know whether Disclosure Day 2 could eventually happen.
Here’s all the Disclosure release date information we know so far.
Disclosure Day 2 release date rumors and potential explained
There has been no official confirmation that Disclosure Day 2 is happening.
While Disclosure Day continues to perform strongly at the box office, there has been no announcement regarding a sequel. Most recently, director Steven Spielberg addressed the popular belief that the film is a follow-up to his 1977 extraterrestrial-themed movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Spielberg confirmed, “It is not a sequel in any way, shape, or form to Close Encounters.” The Oscar-winning filmmaker went on to note key differences between the two films.
Is Disclosure Day 2 coming out?
At this time, a sequel appears unlikely.
Screenwriter David Koepp spoke with Den of Geek about the possibility of a sequel. He emphasized that the movie tells a complete story that cannot be stretched out to make a franchise. “We always wanted to stop that night in the control room or in a studio, in part because the movie is called Disclosure Day,” Koepp said.
He continued, “If the movie was called ‘Disclosure Day and the Subsequent Week,’ then you know you got a lot of explaining to do. But our story was accomplished and it was time to end it.”
Disclosure Day follows a meteorologist who teams up with a cybersecurity expert to uncover information about extraterrestrial life. One that has been concealed by the government. The cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo.
The synopsis for Disclosure Day is as follows:
“If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?”
