One of Marvel’s most anticipated Spider-Man projects is fully complete, yet nobody knows when it’s actually dropping. A key Marvel executive revealed why the crowded 2026 slate is keeping this fan-favorite series in limbo.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 is complete
Marvel’s Head of Television, Brad Winderbaum, revealed to ScreenRant that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 has wrapped production entirely. Despite this milestone, the animated Disney+ series does not yet have a confirmed premiere date.
Winderbaum shared the update during an exclusive interview at the Tribeca Film Festival. He confirmed that “it is coming. It’s complete.” Still, the executive seemed unsure about the exact launch timing. He admitted, “I don’t think we’ve announced it yet, but there’s a lot coming out this year.”
Marvel Studios faces an exceptionally crowded 2026 calendar across its film and television slate. X-Men ’97 season 2 debuts on July 1, and VisionQuest also lands on Disney+ later this year. Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, with Avengers: Doomsday arriving close behind. Winderbaum stressed that the studio wants to “give it a good place to live and breathe” within this dense lineup.
The Marvel TV boss also offered fresh teases about the second season’s narrative direction. He specifically highlighted Colman Domingo’s performance as Norman Osborn. Winderbaum said, “Colman is so freaking good, and the Norman Osborn plot… The thing that makes Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man work so well is that the characters really simmer for a very long time when they start to pay off, and some of the payoffs just start hitting really heavy in season 2, and it’s extremely satisfying.”
Season 2 will notably feature Gwen Stacy for the first time under Marvel Studios, bringing Spider-Gwen into the animated series. Venom’s introduction will simultaneously raise the stakes for this MCU variant of Spider-Man. Marvel Studios confirmed back in January 2025 that a third season is already in development.
The studio plans to release season 3 approximately one year after season 2 drops on Disney+.
