Grizzly Bear thriller film from Obsession producers revealed
The producers of the box office hit Obsession have set their sights on a new thriller project. Jeff Sneider reports that Capstone Pictures and Teashop Films are reteaming for the grizzly bear movie End of Life. The film pits man against beast in a remote and deadly survival scenario.
The Cut director Sean Ellis is in early talks to direct the film from a script by Matt Tente. The story centers on a man with terminal cancer who heads to his family’s remote vacation cabin. He plans to end his life peacefully, but a grizzly bear breaks in and upends everything.
Teashop’s James Harris will produce alongside Cami Winikoff of Sobini Films and Jarrod Murray of Epicenter. Capstone’s Christian Mercuri rounds out the producing team and will also finance the project. Harris previously worked with Ellis on The Cut, which starred Orlando Bloom.
The producers are now weighing which major star to pursue for the lead role first. Harrison Ford, Pierce Brosnan, and Oscar-winning Russell Crowe currently top their wishlist. Attaching a star will likely determine when the team formally announces the project.
Ellis first gained attention with his 2004 short Cashback, which was later expanded into a 2006 feature film. His credits also include the crime drama Metro Manila, the war thriller Anthropoid, and The Cursed. Tente, meanwhile, built his writing career after assisting Scott Cooper on Out of the Furnace and Black Mass.
Tente has since worked with notable companies such as Escape Artists, New Republic Pictures, and Will Packer Productions. UTA and Independent Talent Group represent Ellis, while Epicenter represents Tente. Obsession has grossed over $238 million worldwide and stands as Focus Features’ highest-grossing film ever.
