ITV has recently announced schedule changes to accommodate upcoming soccer matches. The soap operas Emmerdale and Coronation Street will temporarily move to different time slots this week.
Why ITV has changed major soap schedules this week
ITV has announced some tweaks to its regular schedules this week. The soap operas Emmerdale and Coronation Street will temporarily move to a different time slot to adjust for the upcoming Men’s World Cup and a Women’s European Qualifier match.
According to reports, ITV1 will air the England vs. Ukraine Women’s European Qualifier on Tuesday, June 9. Coverage will begin at 7.30 p.m., with kick-off at 8 p.m. Thus, the match will continue through Emmerdale and Coronation Street’s usual 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. time slots, respectively. As a result, both shows have been bumped from Tuesday’s schedule.
Additionally, the Men’s England v Costa Rica match will take place on Wednesday, June 10. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. with kick-off at 9 p.m. So, Emmerdale will return to the screen at 7 p.m., while Coronation Street will follow shortly after at 7.30 p.m.
As the FIFA World Cup 2026 kicks off on Thursday, June 11, ITV will broadcast the grand opening ceremony from 6.15 p.m. Coverage of the first match of the tournament begins at 7.50 p.m., followed by the kick-off at 8 p.m. Thus, there will be no new episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street on Thursday.
Both soap operas will return on Friday, June 12, airing in hour-long time slots. Viewers can catch Emmerdale at 8 p.m., which will air for an hour. Similarly, Coronation Street will air from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Furthermore, no new episodes of the two soap operas will be available on ITV1 on Sunday, June 14.
In January this year, the broadcaster introduced the soap’s “power hour” on weekdays. This update unveiled 30-minute episodes of Emmerdale and Coronation Street at 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m., respectively.
