The cast of Marvel’s Wonder Man has laid out an ambitious wishlist for the show’s Season 2. They pitched everything from interstellar misadventures to floating Josh Gad‘s mysterious fate.
Wonder Man cast answers what they want to see in Season 2
The Wonder Man team gathered at the Television Academy to discuss a future that deliberately blurs the line between superhero spectacle and showbiz satire. Their pitches reveal a series unwilling to play by conventional Marvel rules.
Ben Kingsley, who plays the delightfully absurd Trevor Slattery, pushed for a narrative leap beyond the planet Earth. “I would love Trevor’s story to go into outer space, but I probably find that a bit of a stretch… But I’d love for him to visit other planets,” Kingsley said.
Andrew Guest, co-creator and executive producer, gave a broader but vague outline for Wonder Man Season 2. “More Simon and Trevor, more entertainment stories, and also some new things that we didn’t quite get to explore,” Guest said. “And I know I am being vague, but I don’t want to get in trouble with any of my bosses.” His careful phrasing suggests Marvel Studios has locked down specific unannounced elements, though the promise of deeper dives into the entertainment industry remains important.
X Mayo, who plays Simon’s no-nonsense agent Janelle Jackson, turned attention to an unresolved thread driving fan speculation. “One thing that I’m excited is to see where is Josh Gad. Where is he? He’s somewhere just floating. So I’m excited about that and to see how Simon’s character, Wonder Man, progresses,” Mayo said. Gad’s cameo as himself in the Season 1 finale left his status literally up in the air, and Mayo’s tease confirms the writers could intend to address that cosmic loose end.
Furthermore, Destin Daniel Cretton, who serves as co-creator, director, and executive producer, emphasized character depth over sheer spectacle. “There’s so much fun to be had in whatever crazy journey they’re going to go on next together. But I also think there’s a deep well, both in Simon Williams but also Trevor Slattery, to get to know them more and to understand their past,” Cretton said.
Season 1 saw meta-commentary on franchise filmmaking, paired with genuine heart, which became the series’ secret weapon. Now, it seems Wonder Man Season 2 looks set to expand that world.
