All eight seasons of a popular zombie series are scheduled to leave Netflix soon. It is the spin-off of the AMC network’s global phenomenon that popularized the genre in mainstream media. This leaves fans of the franchise with a limited time to stream the eight-season spin-off.
Fear the Walking Dead will leave Netflix in August
Fear the Walking Dead Seasons 1-8 will be removed from Netflix’s streaming catalog on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 (via What’s on Netflix).
It is a spin-off of The Walking Dead, which in turn was an adaptation of the eponymous comic book series. It was created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. Kirkman also co-developed the spin-off with Dave Erickson for AMC. Erickson served as the showrunner for Seasons 1-3, while Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg oversaw the remainder of the series.
Fear the Walking Dead centers on a blended family and an unlikely group of survivors as they try to survive a global zombie outbreak. It begins at the very start of the outbreak rather than in a post-apocalyptic setting, as seen in the original.
The first three seasons serve as a prequel and mainly focus on the group. However, from Season 4 onward, the story runs in parallel with The Walking Dead. It also introduces Morgan Jones, a prominent character from the original.
The series’ cast features Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Mercedes Mason, Colman Domingo, Maggie Grace, and Lennie James, among others.
Fear the Walking Dead debuted on AMC on August 23, 2015. It reportedly drew a record-breaking 10.1 million viewers. However, by the time its finale, titled “The Road Ahead,” aired on November 19, 2023, the viewership had dropped to an average of 0.488 million viewers.
The series suffered in terms of viewer reception as well. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a critics’ approval rating of 74%, while the user rating sits at 57%. On IMDb, it has a score of 6.8/10, based on over 150K user votes.
