Black Panther Star Wants To Be Martian Manhunter & It’s Perfect

Black Panther star may have just sparked one of the DC Universe’s most unexpected casting conversations with a brief social media response. A recent interaction involving Martian Manhunter has now fueled fresh speculation surrounding the future of the iconic Justice League character.

Sterling K. Brown wants to be Martian Manhunter in DCU

Sterling K. Brown publicly reacted to a DC Universe Justice League fan-cast on Instagram after user twistedgodsinsta shared potential casting choices for several DC characters and future superhero roles.

Soon afterward, Brown commented, “I’m in!” under the post, which quickly sparked online discussion about him potentially portraying Martian Manhunter in the DC Universe. The comment appeared roughly six hours after the post went live on May 15, 2026, as fans widely shared screenshots across multiple social media platforms.

The Instagram post featured multiple fan-cast selections connected to future Justice League members and supporting DC characters across several upcoming franchise discussions. Consequently, Brown’s response quickly spread across social media platforms after major entertainment accounts and fan pages highlighted the interaction.

Brown currently remains one of television’s most recognized actors following his role as Randall Pearson in NBC’s This Is Us. Additionally, he appeared in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther as N’Jobu and earned an Academy Award nomination for American Fiction. More recently, his television work includes Hulu’s Paradise and Amazon’s Washington Black.

Meanwhile, Martian Manhunter debuted in Detective Comics #225 during November 1955. Writer Joseph Samachson and artist Joe Certa created the character as J’onn J’onzz, a telepathic alien from Mars. Eventually, the superhero became a founding Justice League member with abilities including shapeshifting, invisibility, telepathy, and flight.

Over the years, the character appeared in several live-action DC projects. For example, David Harewood portrayed Martian Manhunter in Supergirl, while Harry Lennix appeared as the character in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. However, Brown has not publicly provided additional comments regarding the fan-cast response.
