Ahead of its debut on May 31, the total runtime for the eighth and final episode of Euphoria Season 3 has finally been revealed.
Titled “In God We Trust,” the season finale, written and directed by Sam Levinson, is officially going to be 93 minutes long. Many sites have already claimed that the Euphoria Season 3 finale would be HBO‘s longest episode ever. However, this isn’t really the case.
Why the Euphoria Season 3 finale isn’t breaking an HBO record?
At the moment, the record for the longest episode that HBO has ever aired actually goes to the pilot episode of Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger’s period drama Vinyl. The Bobby Cannavale-led show has maintained that record for over a decade now. Despite not breaking the Vinyl pilot episode’s record, the Euphoria Season 3 finale will still become one of the premium network’s longest episodes to date, tying with the 93-minute-long series finale of the acclaimed drama The Wire, which originally aired on March 9, 2008.
After Vinyl, Euphoria, and The Wire, HBO also had other shows with 90-minute-long episodes, including the biopic miniseries John Adams’ “Part II – Independence” episode (91 minutes), The White Lotus Season 3 finale (90 minutes), and the Succession series finale (90 minutes). Following them are popular HBO shows like Game of Thrones Season 8’s Episode 3, “The Long Night” (82 minutes); The Last of Us pilot episode (81 minutes); The Sopranos Season 4’s Episode 13, “Whitecaps” (75 minutes); and the Boardwalk Empire pilot episode (73 minutes).
Euphoria is created and written by Levinson, who is also executive producing with Zendaya and Drake. Season 3 features the return of Emmy winner Zendaya as Rue, Golden Globe nominee Jacob Elordi as Nate, Hunter Schafer as Jules, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo as Ali, and more. The latest installment currently has two episodes left before the Season 3 finale premieres on May 31.
