Seth MacFarlane and Alana Ubach addressed the future of the Ted franchise during a recent panel appearance. The series creator and co-star opened up about what could come next for the foul-mouthed teddy bear and the live-action cast.
Seth MacFarlane still wants to make Ted Season 3 or a Peacock movie
Seth MacFarlane revealed at Saturday’s Ted panel during Deadline Contenders TV that he is considering a direct-to-Peacock movie featuring the live-action series cast. The producer also wants a third season of the show co-starring Alana Ubach. An animated Ted series for the streaming platform remains in development.
MacFarlane explained that any future project depends entirely on Peacock’s willingness to fund it. “It really is up to to Peacock with their, you know, vast amounts of big Scrooge McDuck money that they dive into every day,” MacFarlane said. He has previously expressed uncertainty about whether the platform will bankroll another season.
The producer outlined the various possibilities he and the team are currently weighing for the franchise. “I think all of us, in some form or another, whether it’s a Season 3 of Ted or a direct-to-Peacock feature with this cast, is something I think we’d all be up for. It’s all on the table,” MacFarlane said.
Ubach joined MacFarlane onstage Saturday and addressed the flexibility of continuing the story. “The wonderful thing about a character-driven show is that the possibilities are endless, right?” Ubach said.
MacFarlane reminded the audience that the original 2012 film starring Mark Wahlberg began as an animated pitch before becoming a theatrical hit. The upcoming animated series comes from executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh.
“It’s only fitting that it all comes back around to the animated show, the first season of which is getting close to completion as far as the production cycle,” MacFarlane said. “It takes place after the events of the last movie. So it’s Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Barth … all the folks from the original films.”
Ted is currently streaming on Peacock.
