Why Fans Think Lady Danbury Is Leaving Bridgerton

Bridgerton Season 4 has finally arrived. With each new installment, the Netflix series has woven a captivating tale of love, scandal, and societal intrigue. However, whispers are circulating about Lady Danbury leaving Bridgerton that could change the landscape of the show.

Is Lady Danbury really leaving Bridgerton?

Lady Danbury, the sharp-witted doyenne played by Adjoa Andoh, has been a fan-favorite since the series’ debut. Her sassy one-liners, unwavering support of the Bridgertons, and intricate friendship with Golda Rosheuvel’s Queen Charlotte have made her an integral part of the show’s fabric. However, with Season 4, rumors are swirling that the beloved character might be saying goodbye.

In Season 4’s premiere, Lady Danbury confides in Queen Charlotte about her need for a change. “I am considering playing less of a part in society this year,” she told Her Majesty. “It is time. I long to travel… to visit my ancestral home. I have not been there since I was four years old.”

Danbury indicated her intention to withdraw from societal engagements by the end of the current social season. The decision is intended to provide her with a temporary reprieve, allowing her to focus on personal pursuits. She assured the Queen that her departure is merely a break from society and that she will preserve their enduring friendship and maintain periodic contact.

However, the Queen’s response was a curt “No”. This refusal ignited an undercurrent of tension between the two friends, a previously unseen dynamic that hints at the complexities of their bond.

Much to the relief of fans, showrunner Jess Brownell’s recent interview with Deadline doused the flames of speculation. “I want to say very clearly that we have no intentions of Adjoa stepping back,” she said, before assuring that Lady Danbury is “absolutely a part of the story in Season 5.”

Furthermore, Brownell unpacked the tension between Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte as an exploration of their friendship’s complexities when power dynamics come into play.

Bridgerton is available for streaming on Netflix, with Season 4 Part 1 already out and Part 2 arriving February 26.
