Katelyn MacMullen breaks down Willow’s decision to marry Drew on General Hospital
Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, Katelyn MacMullen gave an insight into her character, Willow’s decision to marry Drew. Fans are no strangers to the pair’s complicated history on the show, making the December 2 wedding one of the most shocking events to unfold this year.
Reflecting on Drew’s proposal to Willow last week, MacMullen said, “I think at that point, Willow was kind of hoping that would happen.” The actress explained, “She’s out of prison, but she’s only out on bail. Her back is against the wall, and she needs any hope that she’ll get through this. So I think she kind of wanted to latch on to Drew at that point.”
MacMullen clarified that Willow did not accept the proposal out of love. She had to say yes to the marriage because “she needed it.” Shortly before the ceremony, she explained to her mother Nina that she is doing it for the sake of her kids. MacMullen revealed that the marriage is a “strategy,” adding, “I think Drew and Willow are both getting what they want and need, but it’s not out of real love.”
Willow remains determined to regain the custody of her kids, Wiley and Amelia, from Michael. However, she knows that she doesn’t “stand a chance in a visitation hearing or a custody hearing, if she doesn’t have someone with power by her side.”
MacMullen further explained, “To even attend the visitation hearing, step one, she needs her freedom. And so there’s an element of keeping Drew as an ally because she doesn’t want him not to be an ally when she goes on trial.” According to her, Willow is “desperately clinging on to whatever or whoever she believes will help her get closer to her children.”
