Robin Kaye, an American Idol music supervisor, was found dead along with her husband, Thomas DeLuca, in their Los Angeles home on Monday, July 15. According to a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check on the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue in Encino around 2:33 p.m.

Upon arrival, the officers found the bodies of a man and a woman, deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the couple interrupted a burglary in progress. Kaye, who had extensive experience in music licensing with record labels including MTM, MCA, and PolyGram, joined American Idol in 2009. She remained with the series through its various transitions and was actively working on the upcoming season at the time of her death. Over the years, she contributed to nearly 300 episodes of the competition series.

ABC-TV issued a heartfelt statement mourning the loss. The statement read, “Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.”

Former contestants have also shared personal tributes. Season 8 winner Kris Allen reflected on how important Kaye had been to his time on the show. Calling her “kind” and “understanding,” Allen said, “Robin was such a huge part of my success on the show. She’s the reason I was able to perform ‘Falling Slowly’ and ‘Heartless.’ She fought for getting what song I would feel comfortable singing that week cleared.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
