As a co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn will oversee two of the upcoming Batman movies in the DCU. The first is The Batman 2, Matt Reeves’ anticipated follow-up to 2022’s The Batman. The second one, The Brave and the Bold, will feature Batman in Gunn’s DC Universe.
What is the update regarding Batman in The Brave and the Bold?
While promoting Superman, Gunn spoke to Gamesradar+ about the status of The Brave and the Bold. While Gunn did not reveal any casting updates, he did tease his participation in the project.
“We’re working on a script. We have a screenwriter who’s hammering away at it,” Gunn said. “I’m very involved, and so we’ll see what happens next. I wish I had more news for you, but I don’t.”
Gunn is taking a more active role in The Brave and the Bold because these characters are part of his DC Universe. The Brave and the Bold will be a father-son story featuring Bruce Wayne as Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, as Robin. The movie is still slated to debut within the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
The Flash’s Andy Muschietti has been tapped to direct The Brave and the Bold. Gunn did not reveal the screenwriter for the movie. There have been no casting announcements. However, Robert Pattinson will not play Batman in The Brave and the Bold. Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne will remain exclusive to Reeves’ movies.
Gunn is more of a figurehead in The Batman 2. Reeves’ sequel is part of the DC Elseworlds label reserved for projects that don’t fit into the DC Universe. The Batman 2 is scheduled to film by the end of 2025. In the same interview, Gunn said he had The Batman 2 script in his backpack and would read it soon. The Batman 2 hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
