General Hospital’s Rory Gibson on How Fans Reacted to His Michael Casting

Recently, Rory Gibson stepped into the shoes of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, taking over the role from fan-favorite Chad Duell. In an interview, the actor shared his thoughts on joining the long-running soap and expressed surprise at the audience’s reaction to his casting, as he was expecting some resistance in the beginning.

Here’s what Gibson revealed.

Rory Gibson says he ‘felt the love’ from fans after replacing Chad Duell on General Hospital

In a conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Gibson mentioned that he was prepared for a challenging journey to win over the fans of General Hospital. “I’ve been a recast before, so I know that it can come with a little bit of resistance,” he stated. Gibson, however, expressed that he “felt the love” from fans after taking on the role of Michael and replacing Chad Duell.

The actor was initially prepared for some negative reactions. He noted that he expected some criticism, and perhaps people wouldn’t warm up to him right away. To cope, he decided to stay away from social media for a while. He even shared that he doesn’t have an official X (formerly Twitter) account, but he does have an Instagram account, and he made an effort to steer clear of any drama. This was because he anticipated that things might get a bit “intense” for a while.

Nevertheless, the reaction from fans surprised him entirely. From his initial appearances, the warmth and affection he received from his supporters were evident, confirming that he had discovered a welcoming new place within the General Hospital family.

Their response turned out to be incredibly gentle and kind. Talking about what he discovered when he ventured into the online realm upon insistence from his friend, he said, “Everyone has been unbelievably, overwhelmingly kind. It was so cool to see. It was just so refreshing and nice, and I really felt the love. I felt very welcomed, and I was very appreciative of it.”
