Katelyn MacMullen says Willow ‘snapped’ after losing custody case on General Hospital

The 29-year-old actress recently interacted with Soap Opera Digest, explaining Willow Tait’s emotional state after she lost the custody case with Michael Corinthos. When asked if the character entered into a “shock” or “snapped” following her meltdown in court, Katelyn MacMullen replied that it was a mental breakdown.

“My take is that when you receive really horrible news, sometimes at first your brain doesn’t process it in real time,” MacMullen told the outlet. She shared that Willow experienced a minor “break from reality” after realizing what was unfolding around her.

MacMullen explained Willow’s situation as the collective trauma experienced by a person “catching up with them in a moment” and “being reactivated.” She noted that Willow’s experience was “in a sense, a mental breakdown.”

The outlet pointed out how Willow was “in a bit of a fog,” despite being discharged from the hospital and returning to Drew‘s house. They added that Wiley and Amelia’s absence made Drew’s residence feel “very empty.”

MacMullen responded by acknowledging the outlet’s comments, noting that the character “snapped.”

“She definitely had a moment where she snapped in the courtroom, and I think that there is a little bit of delayed processing, maybe,” she stated. “Even like [she’s] kind of losing it a little bit as she’s trying to cope with this feeling of emptiness.”

The Daytime Emmy Winner pointed out how Willow’s life revolved around her kids, because of which she found it “almost impossible” to imagine a “life without them.” She said that she couldn’t personally understand how losing custody of one’s children could affect someone.

MacMullen shared that “anything was possible” when it came to exploring Willow’s current mental state. She noted that Willow’s actions moving forward were “kind of unpredictable,” teasing that viewers should “expect the unexpected.”
