Days of Our Lives’ Stephen Nichols Thanks Fans After Completing 40 Years on Dool

Days of Our Lives star Stephen Nichols, who plays Steve “Patch” Johnson, recently completed four decades on the iconic show. Despite being intended for a short storyline arc, Nichols never left and eventually became an indispensable member of DOOL. He looked back on his stint in a recent interview.

Stephen Nichols says Days of Our Lives fans are family members he ‘never met’

Stephen Nichols, with his iconic eye-patch and relentless drive, became and remained one of the most iconic soap characters: Steve Johnson. He did leave Days of Our Lives and even worked on several other shows, but he has remained Steve Johnson for four decades now.

Nichols opened up about the show and his character in an interview with Soap Opera Digest. After discussing a variety of things about his character and his romance with Kayla, Nichols finally addressed his fans in the interview, calling them his “family.”

“Fans of Days of Our Lives, I carry your support with me every day I go to work. Many of you are like family members I have never met, and I know you’re out there and I appreciate you,” the actor said. “Others who I have met, I want you to know that the things you say, your take on story, the compliments you pay our show and me and others, I take all of it to heart.”

He added, “It means more to me than you know. I appreciate you.” Nichols also mentioned “those fans who have become friends, are true friends of mine and even like family in some cases.” He said that they “sustain” him, his “work” and his “liveliood.” The actor continued expressing his gratitude, saying, “I am eternally grateful to you. Thank you for 40 years! Let’s keep those sands flowing.”
