Synopsis:

The following is from the DVD cover:

“Evil Lies Beneath the Surface.

Go underground in this shocking, gore-drenched experience in terror! City maintenance worker Vince Stoker (Tom Sizemore) is in the ultimate race for survival when he and his crew investigate an abandoned tunnel system and come face-to-face with a medical mutilation experiment gone horribly wrong. With time running out, it’s up to Vince to find a way to the surface before they’re killed by a terrifying, blood-thirsty creature that has a disturbing appetite…for human flesh.”

“Bottom Feeder” is unrated.

The Movie:

I think this movie may be justification for starting a war with Canada. “Bottom Feeder” and several other recent low budget horror movies proudly declare how they get tax credits from the Canadian government. Unfortunately, they are so bad that I think we can consider this a terrorist act by the Canadians.

Tom Sizemore is quickly becoming the King of B-Movies. Well, actually, C-Movies. His latest criminal act is starring in this movie about a scientist that is turned into a giant rat monster that kills people. It has all the requirements of a C-Movie. You have poor acting, especially by a bum with a bad Jamaican accent. You have bad sets, this time in a single hallway that is seen over and over from different angles. You have bad special effects in the rat monster suit. It’s rubber toes jiggle in numerous close-ups. Finally, you have plot holes of galactic proportions.

Overall, this is a poorly made production in every respect. I’ve seen fan films on YouTube better than this.

The Extras:

The only real bonus feature is “The Making of Bottom Feeder”. In it, the creator talks about filming the movie on location and adapting the script to suit the locations. You see monster effects, behind the scenes footage, and more. You also see Sizemore do some of his best acting as he says how great it was filming “Bottom Feeder.” From what I understand, in a moment of rare clarity, he walked off the set of this movie while filming his reality TV show.

The Bottom Line:

Unless you’re having a Mystery Science Theater 3000 party, I recommend you pass on “Bottom Feeder.” On the other hand, maybe you can use it as a way to figure out how to get free money from the Canadian government. You can probably churn out cinematic garbage equivalent to this and profit.
