Doechii has finally responded to claims about her debut Met Gala controversy, where she called out to her team asking for more “umbrellas.” The singer posted a TikTok video justifying her behaviour, with the Grammy winner calling the star-studded Met Gala an “overstimulating night.”
What did Doechii say about her Met Gala outburst?
Doechii has an explanation for her Met Gala umbrella video. The singer took to social media to justify her outburst as she posted a new TikTok clip with the text, “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas.”
She wrote in the caption, “All jokes aside, this was such an overstimulating night, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” The “Denial is a River” singer noted, “This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).”
This was in response to a video of Doechii shouting for more umbrellas before her Met appearance surfaced recently. In the clip, the “Anxiety” rapper demands umbrellas to cover her to avoid a premature unveiling of her 2025 Met Gala look. In the video, the artist yells, “Give me another umbrella now. I need more f—— umbrellas!”
Doechii’s umbrella video garnered mixed responses from fans. Some fans have defended the singer after her explanation surfaced. One user posted on X, “No shade, the stans on here were dragging it. We’ve seen celebrities do much worse.”
Another posted, “The people who are mad about it already didn’t like her. It was a high-stress moment, that’s all. Leave her alone.” A third user wanted accountability from the singer and shared, “All she had to do was be real and say sometimes when we’re stressed, we aren’t as polite as we should be. It’s show business; it’s not always please and thank you.”
Additionally, Doechii impressed fans with her Met Gala debut attire, sporting trouser shorts with a matching coat by Pharrell and Louis Vuitton. The singer shared that this year’s theme aligned with her, which made her debut appearance special. She stated, “The theme this year is in such alignment with who I am (and) what I stand for. It’s nothing but God that this year was our debut.”
