Why Fans Think Mrs. Devine & Sullivan Are Leaving Father Brown

Fans speculate that Mrs. Isabel Devine (Claudie Blakley) and Edgar Sullivan (Tom Chambers) might be leaving Father Brown due to the latter’s father’s wishes. He insisted that the couple would receive his blessings only if they moved to London. With his demand standing in the way of their wedding, fans think that they will eventually comply with his wishes. This could lead to their potential exit. The Season 12 finale seems to have clarified their characters’ fate on the show. So, here are the details.

Are Mrs. Isabel Devine and Edgar Sullivan leaving Father Brown?

Father Brown Season 12 Episode 10, titled “The Blessing of the Father,” showcases Isabel Devine initially confirming that they are fulfilling Sullivan’s father’s wishes and moving to London after the wedding. However, tables turn at the season’s end, hinting at the couple staying at Kembleford.

While the episode teases fans as the wedding preparations begin, it also puts Edgar and Isabel in the center stage, ultimately disclosing their fate beyond this season. At the beginning of the episode, Father Brown and Brenda question Mrs. Devine after learning she skipped classes and also got new suitcases. She reveals that she was about to give a letter to Father Brown. She wanted to disclose that the couple willingly accepts his wish to move to London to receive his blessings. Later, Lady Felicia and Irene get involved in their wedding preparations.

In a past interview, Claudie Blakley acknowledged that Sullivan’s father’s risky decision would pose a challenge to their wedding. Although her character has no wish to leave her Kembleford life behind, she could likely do it for love.

“Sullivan’s father also says that he won’t give the wedding his blessing unless they both move to London, which shocks Mrs. Devine. She’s scared of the prospect of having to leave Kembleford and her friends, but she considers it for Edgar and his career. She loves him,” she stated. (via The Mirror)

The final moments witness Edgar and Isabel’s wedding. After the ceremony, Edgar reveals to Archibald that he will push for his job reinstatement. Archibald disapproves, but a stubborn Edgar stays firm in his decision. Eventually, Edgar realizes that he had listened to his father too long and killed his own wishes. But now he will do what he believes is right. He later promises to help Goodfellow obtain his position back. The ending sees Devine telling Father Brown that they aren’t going to London. This clarifies that they aren’t leaving the show, either.
