Mini-Review:

I’ve got to admit that I was a little bit surprised to find out that “Mission: Impossible” had never been on DVD before. The classic TV show seems like a natural to sell to DVD fans, especially since the movies were such big hits. Well, now they can rejoice with this DVD collection of the first season. While watching this, I realized that I had never actually seen the TV show before. I was familiar with the movies, but that was the extent of my familiarity with the show. The TV show and movie are dramatically different. The shows are slowly paced, the movies are very fast paced. The show is very dated while the movies are ultra-hip and modern. The show was more about the ensemble cast while the movies are much more about Tom Cruise. However, watching the show you see a lot of similar elements. They do mask tricks and disguises over and over. The team conducts elaborately orchestrated break-ins. There’s a lot of tense international espionage. If you love spy movies, this TV series is for you. And if you’re a fan of Martin Landau, you’ll also probably love seeing his younger self in this early role.

Unfortunately, there are no bonus features on this DVD. They could have at least done some interviews with the surviving cast and crew.
