“The Disappearance of Maddi Kingsbury” is the upcoming episode of CBS 48 Hours that will be aired on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 pm ET. It will look into the disappearance and murder of Maddi Kingsbury, a clinical researcher at Mayo Clinic and mother of two.

Maddi Kingsbury disappeared on March 31, 2023, after dropping her children off at a daycare center, accompanied by the children’s father, Adam Fravel. A widespread investigation began, and authorities tracked a blue Chrysler Town and a country van she owned. Fravel claimed he had borrowed Maddi’s car hours after she was last seen. The Independent reported that by then he had found her gone and left for her place to return it.

According to Fox 9, Maddi Kingsbury failed to report to work the following day. She did not collect her kids from daycare or arrange for someone else to do so, raising suspicions about her location. The police then launched an investigation and searched her home and van. They found a jacket she had worn the day she vanished. Authorities also found her cell phone and wallet, which consisted of an ID.

On June 8, 2023, authorities confirmed that they had found Maddi Kingsbury’s body in Mabel, south of Winona. As per NBC Chicago, digital evidence gathered by experts had led authorities to the area where the remains were found. Despite previous searches, her body was found concealed in a manner that complicated its discovery. She was wrapped with a bedsheet and closed with black tape.

Who killed Maddi Kingsbury?

According to CBS News, Adam Fravel was taken into custody as soon as authorities found Kingbury’s remains. He was being suspected of second-degree murder. After her remains were confirmed, Fravel faced two counts of second-degree murder, later upgraded to first-degree. Despite this, he is still awaiting trial, and no convictions have been made yet.

According to Fox 9, Adam Fravel filed a motion seeking dismissal of the first-degree murder charge against him, with his attorneys arguing insufficient evidence for the indictment. Another motion cited excessive community interest and media coverage, prompting his legal team to request a change of venue from Winona County.

Fravel’s lawyers also said that Fravel was unaware of his Miranda rights before the Rushmore Police Department took a statement from him. Therefore, they requested that his statements to the department not be used as evidence. They also requested that Kingsbury’s therapy session accounts not be used as evidence, according to a report by CBS News.

Even before Maddi Kingsbury disappeared, Adam Fravel did not have custodial rights to their children. The children were aged 5 and 2 years, respectively. Currently, the children are in the custody of the Winona County Health and Human Services department, as per court orders. Authorities also claimed that Fravel had been subjecting Maddi to continuous domestic abuse.

“The Disappearance of Maddi Kingsbury” will be aired on CBS on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10 pm ET.
