Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo Ending Explained: What Happens To Nam Joo-Hyuk and Lee Sung-Kyung’s Relationship?

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo is a rom-com K-drama starring Lee Sung-Kyung and Nam Joo-Hyuk in the lead. Directed by Oh Hyun Jong and Nam Sung Woo and written by Yang Hee-Seung and Kim Soo-Jin, the drama is a love story between a weightlifter and a swimmer.

MBC‘s drama revolves around Kim Bok-Joo, a young weightlifter who trains with heavy steel weights but also dreams of having a romantic relationship. Spoilers ahead. In the final episode, Kim Bok-Joo and Jung Jun-Hyung maintain a long-distance relationship as she goes to Taereung to train weightlifting further and play on the field. In the meantime, her father gets admitted to the hospital for his stomach ulcer. Jun-Hyung finds out about it and keeps it a secret to Bok-Joo to respect her father’s wish. However, she doesn’t know any of this, and Jun-Hyung’s suspicious behavior makes her feel distant.

After a lot of chaos, she finally finds out about her father’s health and then goes to Jun-Hyung to make up for her behavior. They get back together and share an emotional moment. They even get Bok-Joo’s (Lee Sung-Kyung) father’s approval, who was very opposed to their romance. She then further trains harder and wins a gold medal in her game. After winning the medal, when she returns, she finds Jun-Hyung to be waiting for her. Bok-Joo runs into his arms and expresses her love and gratitude toward him. On the other hand, Jun-Hyung trains harder to hone his craft, swimming after overcoming his past traumas with water.

In the meantime, Jun-Hyung’s friend, Jo Tae-Kwon (Ji Il-Joo) and Lee Seon-Ok (Lee Joo-Young), Bok-Joo’s best friend, express their feelings for each other. But they keep it a secret from their friends. The drama, Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo ends with a happy note where every character gets a happy ending.

In the last moments, Bok-Joo and Jun-Hyung’s family meet each other at their graduation and express their gratitude. It almost feels like they are arranging their kids’ engagement date. The drama ends with a scene where they talk about their marriage in the future.

Lee Sung-Kyung and Nam Joo-Hyuk’s chemistry was immensely appreciated by the viewers. Other actors have also portrayed beautifully in their individual characters.
