Tillu Square Is Based on True Story?

Telugu actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda is set to reprise his role as DJ Tillu in the upcoming film Tillu Square. The movie is the official sequel to the 2022 blockbuster DJ Tillu. As the film’s release approaches, the cast and crew have been promoting it rigorously. Mallik Ram directed the film, while Jonnalagadda himself penned the romantic comedy. However, viewers might be curious to know whether Tillu Square is based on a true story.

Siddhu Jonnalagadda reveals the inspiration behind Tillu Square

In an interview with The Hindu, Siddhu Jonnalagadda revealed that Tillu Square is not based on a true story. However, he took inspiration from his real life and observations in the areas of Malkajgiri, Chilkalguda, and Warasiguda of Secunderabad to create the character of DJ Tillu.

When asked about Tillu, he said, “If you observe carefully, Tillu was philosophical beneath those layers of wacky fun. But I did not want to be poetic or artistic about those philosophical statements. I chose sarcasm as a medium to convey his thoughts.” Jonnalagadda also revealed how he finalized the script of Tillu Square. The process included incorporating constructive criticism and several revisions.

Talking about the process, Siddhu said, “Recently when I told a friend that the film’s runtime is about two hours, he remarked that I had material for four films but made one. That’s how much we kept writing and filtering. We wrote 600 to 700 pages. I think I have aged more in the last two years than in the last decade. The writing took a lot of effort.” He even reportedly altered some scenes while filming the movie.

Anupama Parameswaran will play opposite Jonnalagadda, and their onscreen chemistry has already attracted a lot of attention. It will be interesting to see how the audience will receive the film.

Tillu Square will hit the theaters on March 29, 2024.
