Following the film’s delay in 2023, the video announced that the upcoming anime film would be released on August 30, 2024. Kimi no Iro stars Sayu Suzukawa as Totsuko Higurashi, Taisei Kido as Rui Kagehira, and Akari Takaishi as Kimi Sakunaga.

Naoko Yamada, director of A Silent Voice, will direct the film at Science SARU. Aside from her, Reiko Yoshida will handle the script, while Kensuke Ushuo compose the music. Takashi Kojima is in charge of character design and will direct the animation, while Daisuke Richard drafts the original characters. Story Inc. is the film’s planner and producer.

The official website describes the anime as follows: “Totsuko, a high school student, can see people in colour. Happy colours, fun colours, calm colours. And my favourite colour. Totsuko decides to form a band with Kimi, a beautiful girl who went to the same school as her, and Louis, a music-loving boy she met at a used bookstore in a corner of town. You haven’t been able to tell your girlfriend’s family that she’s no longer going to school. Louis, whose girlfriend’s mother expects him to become a doctor, secretly pursues a music career.”

The synopsis continues, “Each of them, including Totsuko, had worries that they could not tell anyone about. The band practices at an old church on a remote island. As the three communicate through music, they develop friendship with a hint of love. She adjusts too much to those around her, gets hurt by herself, and lies about herself – the school festival soon arrives and her first live performance. What “colours” did the three people show in front of the audience gathered at the venue?”
