Halo Season 2: Who Built The Rings?

Viewers of Halo Season 2 are wondering about the ring that acts as the major MacGuffin for the show. While there’s only one in the series to show up thus far, there are multiple Halo Rings in the games. But who created them? Here’s all you need to know.

Who created the sacred Halo Rings in the games and Halo Season 2?

In the games, the Halo Rings were built by Master Builder Faber, who belonged to the Forerunner race. It’s likely that the Forerunners created the Ring in the live-action series as well.

All the rings collected together are termed the Halo Array. It was designed by Master Builder Faber of the powerful and ancient alien species, the Forerunners. The initial purpose of the megastructure was to exterminate all sentient life in the Milky Way, including the parasitic Flood, a parasitic alien species that infests hosts and takes control over them. Faber designed them to hold their wildlife and weather, and to study the Flood so that the Forerunner race could benefit in the war against them.

Now, Season 2 Episode 7 also teased the presence of Forerunners in the show by showing a deceased scientist. Dr. Halsey, as well as look at a technologically advanced city created by the scientist’s race. Since they are a part of the series as well, it is possible that they were the ones who created the show’s Halo Ring. However, whether the show remains true to the games or deviates in terms of Halo’s creators remains to be seen.

Who are the Forerunners?

The Forerunners are a highly intelligent ancient alien species who came to power by rebelling against their creators, the Precursors.

In the mythology of the Halo games, they were noble and wise creatures who believed in peace and justice. They became a highly powerful and dominant force in the galaxy, expanding their empire by inhabiting several worlds. Then, they reached their peak by creating the Halo Array and Arks that could further create replacement Halo Rings.

Ultimately, they overcame the Flood, but lost a great deal. A massive Forerunner-Flood war led to the threat of the Flood being exterminated, while only a few Forerunners survived in its aftermath. Time will tell if if this backstory ever comes to life in the live-action series.
