Anweshippin Kandethum: Director Teases Sequel Plans Ahead of its Netflix Release Date

The recently released Malayalam movie Anweshippin Kandethum marked Tovino Thomas’s massive comeback to the silver screen. However, facing stiff competition from big releases like Premalu and Bramayugam, the film didn’t emerge as a box-office blockbuster. Nevertheless, it managed to captivate both critics and audiences, receiving widespread acclaim.

As the film gears up for its Netflix release on March 8, 2024. Director Darwin Kurakose recently revealed there might be an Anweshippin Kandethum sequel.

Tovino Thomas’s Anweshippin Kandethum to get a sequel

Anweshippin Kandethum follows the journey of a tainted rookie sub-inspector, Anand Narayanan, played by Tovino Thomas. His team of cops and he are involved in two unrelated murder cases. The story unfolds the challenges faced by the cops during the grueling investigation. Moreover, despite the characters coming tantalizing close to catching the culprit and redeeming themselves for a previous botched case, it doesn’t end with a satisfying ending.

Building on the same, the director Anweshippin Kandethum opened up about a potential sequel and the direction the story might take. Darwin explained, “The movie has the possibility of placing the next story in any time period – between now and their retirement. The sequel might not happen soon, but it will in due time. Right now, we don’t want the characters’ journey to end here and want to take them to a period where they do succeed. Those discussions are going on.”

Furthermore, he revealed they didn’t initially have concrete plans for a sequel. However, based on the film’s reception and Tovino Thomas’ enthusiasm, discussions about continuing the film ignited. He shared, “While we were shooting the film, we had talked to Jinu (Abraham) chettan about a sequel, because it’s always the writer’s call. So, he said if Anweshippin Kandethum is received well in theatres, we could plan.”

In addition, revealed Tovino’s reaction, “That was the only discussion we had before the film’s release. But as soon as the movie hit theatres, Tovino called us and said that we should definitely plan a sequel.”

In conclusion, Anweshippin Kandethum might not have stolen the spotlight during its theatrical release but now with its Netflix release and possible sequel, fans can’t wait for what’s next in store.
