The Purge 6 Gets Positive Update From Frank Grillo

The Purge star Frank Grillo has just offered an optimistic update regarding the sixth installment of the dystopian action horror franchise, revealing that the script for The Purge 6 is already done and that James DeMonaco — the director of the first three The Purge films — is returning to direct the possible last entry of the film series.

In an interview with ScreenRant during the Lights Out red carpet, Grillo said that “the script is done” and will basically center around his character, Leo Barnes. Grillo starred in The Purge: Anarchy in 2014 and The Purge: Election Year in 2016.

“It would be the last of the last of the last, it’s like the guy who keeps retiring. James DeMonaco is going to direct it, if it happens, and it’s a matter of money. It’s a matter of how big they want the movie to be, how much money they want to spend on the movie, considering they’ve done a lot in this franchise. But it’s a great script,” said Grillo.

What is The Purge about?

The first The Purge film debuted in theaters in 2013 and starred Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. Due to the success the first film has received, it has managed to spawn four more sequels, with the sixth one — as Grillo confirmed himself — on the way.

The Purge centers on the titular annual American holiday, where crimes of all kinds — including murder — are legal. All American citizens are expected to participate in a 12-hour Purge, with families or individuals who refuse to take part serving as prey.

DeMonaco served as the screenwriter for the last two The Purge installments, with Gerard McMurray having directed 2018’s The First Purge and Everardo Gout for 2021’s The Forever Purge
