Song Ha-Yoon reflects on her villainous role in Marry My Husband

Marry My Husband followed Kang Ji-Won’s revenge journey on her husband Park Min-Hwan and best friend Jung Soo-Min. After Ji-Won discovers his affair with Soo-Min, Min-Hwan pushes her to die. However, Ji-Won goes back in time to 10 years ago and changes her destiny with the help of her boss and lover, Yoo Ji-Hyeok (Na In-Woo).

Soo-Min’s character had multiple layers. Not only is her obsession with Ji-Won a relevant part of the story, but she also manages to isolate the latter with her tricks. One of them includes Soo-Min stealing Ji-Won’s husband. Song Ha-Yoon, who played this complicated character, revealed that this was the first time she played a villain since her debut 20 years ago.

Song Ha-Yoon further told the news outlet that it was her “thirst for playing a villain and her desire to challenge herself as an actress” that made her choose to play Jung Soo-Min’s character. Furthermore, the actress expressed that the project arrived at the right time. She was confident about playing the villain successfully.

However, Song Ha-Yoon noted that it wasn’t an easy process to adapt to the character. She said, “At first, I embraced Sumin the way I usually act. So I started getting body aches and breaking out in hives. I was going crazy. My body was rejecting me. I thought I would never be able to play this role like this.”

The actress further revealed that she consulted a psychiatrist and profilers. Song Ha-Yoon said, “I met with the teachers and studied the basics of this character, such as her psychology, reasons for her actions, and where jealousy comes from. I also learned about Soo-Min’s reactions when she meets people, her characteristics when speaking, and her eyes.”

The Marry My Husband star noted that Soo-Min’s webtoon character was simpler as compared to the one she played in the series. However, the actress noted that the drama needed to provide viewers with a little more intensity.

Song Ha-Yoon revealed that she reorganized her social media before essaying her villainous role in the drama. Explaining the reason behind the same, she said, “I felt like the past photos I had uploaded were holding me back from being able to go on as Soo-Min. After deleting them all and going to the scene, there was nothing to be afraid of. There was also a part of me that didn’t want to disturb the viewers watching the work.”
