Dateline NBC takes a look into the strange disappearance and murder of Jennifer Ramsaran. The upcoming episode titled “The Perfect Life” will air on the network this Friday, February 16, 2024, at 9 p.m. ET. The official synopsis reads, “More than a decade after a New York mother of three is murdered, the story takes an unexpected turn as a twist emerges that leads to an unforeseen conclusion. Andrea Canning reports.”

According to Oxygen, Jennifer Ramsaran, a married mother-of-three, mysteriously disappeared on December 11, 2012. Months later, in February 2013, her body was found off a remote road in the town of Pharsalia. Her husband, Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran, had claimed Jennifer was having an affair. Police found that the victim used to spend most of her free time playing online fantasy games with a man named Rob, but he lived nowhere nearby.

Shortly after, all suspicion fell on Remy Ramsaran, and the police began investigating him. They found that Remy was having an affair with Jennifer’s close friend, Eileen Sayles, per The Cinemaholic. Investigators also found blood evidence that implicated him while his alibi from the time Jennifer disappeared fell apart.

Who was the suspect charged with Jennifer Ramsaran’s murder?

Police began investigating Jennifer Ramsaran’s husband, Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran, as a prime suspect in her murder.  Oxygen reported that when Jennifer disappeared on the morning of December 11, 2012, Remy claimed she left the house to go to Syracuse to buy a dress. He only made a 911 call when she failed to return home that day.

Remy claimed he had tracked her phone to an area outside town, but a police search failed to find any evidence. Remy then returned to the police and claimed he had found the phone, undamaged, in an overgrown area near a bridge in Plymouth. The Daily Star reported that he explained in an interview that he used GPS technology to locate the phone. Days after Remy reported Jennifer missing, her father found the couple’s abandoned minivan outside a Norwich apartment complex.

Once Jennifer Ramsaran’s body was discovered on February 26, 2013, Remy told police he suspected she was having an affair. He believed that her rendezvous with someone she had met through her online activities possibly went wrong. However, police found no evidence of an extramarital romance. They only learned that she spent most of her free time playing online fantasy games with a man named Rob, who was not a suspect.

Instead, detectives started looking into Remy after noting the unusual way he had found Jennifer’s phone, reported Oxygen. They also learned that he was having an affair with the victim’s close friend, Eileen Sayles. Additionally, Remy’s alibi from the time Jennifer disappeared started to fall apart.

The outlet reported that Remy had initially claimed he was out for a run after Jennifer Ramsaran left that morning. However, authorities found that surveillance footage along the route he claimed he took failed to capture his images. Chenango County Sherrif’s Sgt. Det. Richard Cobb had previously told Dateline, “His alibi of running this certain route appears to be false. So, we have all these things now taking the focus off, this could be anyone, and putting it on Mr. Ramsaran.”

Investigators also found blood evidence on the couple’s mattress and Remy’s sweatshirt Remy he wore that same day. Former Chenango County DA Joseph McBride said, “In our theory of the case, he actually killed his wife at home, and cleaned up for a few hours.” McBride believed that Remy then dumped all evidence, including Jennifer’s body, her phone, and her van.

Why did Ganesh “Remy” Ramsaran murder Jennifer Ramsaran?

In May 2013, police arrested Remy Ramsaran in Jennifer Ramsaran’s killing, per The Daily Star. The arrest was made nearly three months after the discovery of Jennifer’s unclothed body. They charged him with second-degree murder.

The Evening Sun stated that investigators alleged Remy murdered Jennifer Ramsaran on the morning of December 11, 2012. They believed he committed the crime because he was having an affair and wanted to collect insurance money. However, Remy maintained his innocence and pointed out that there was no murder weapon, eyewitnesses, or past violence in their relationship.

According to WNBF, Remy first stood trial in 2014, and in September of that year, a jury convicted him of second-degree murder. He then got a prison sentence of 25 years to life. He received a retrial in October 2022 due to inadequacies in his previous defense and eventually accepted a plea deal.

Remy pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and accepted a sentence of 22 years in prison. He also waived his right to an appeal.

Jennifer Ramsaran’s murder case will air on Dateline NBC’s episode this Friday, February 16.
