Man and Witch: Fathom Events Acquires Throwback Fantasy Movie

Fathom Events has acquired the fantasy throwback film Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps. The news was exclusively announced by Deadline.

Man and Witch Details

Husband and Wife team Greg Steinbruner and Tami Stronach (best known for playing The Childlike Empress in Wolfgang Petersen’s beloved fantasy classic The NeverEnding Story) take the lead roles of man and witch, respectively, with their real-life daughter Maya also playing a part in the passion project for the couple. The film is produced by their Paper Canoe Company and is written by Steinbruner.

Man and Witch is described as a throwback to exactly the kind of fantasy film that Stronach was in during the 80s. The story follows a lonely goatherd ( played by Steinbruner) who, having been cursed at birth never to take a wife, makes a pact with a reclusive witch (played by Stronach) to reverse the spell only if he can complete three impossible tasks so that he may one day find true love.

Man and Witch was filmed in Scotland, and relies on the landscape, live animals, and puppetry from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop over CG.

The film will also star Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse), Daniel Portman (Game of Thrones), Stuart Bowman (Versailles), Martha West (The Pursuit of Love), and Michael Emerson (Lost), with the voices of Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), Bill Bailey (Hot Fuzz), Jennifer Saunders (Shrek 2) and Eddie Izzard (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance). The film is edited by BAFTA-nominated Victoria Boydell (Saltburn) and scored by Emmy-winning composer Geoff Zanelli (Leo).

A Summer release is expected for Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps with concrete details coming soon
